Ian Bowers, a junior in the Computer Science and Information Technology degree program, has recently been offered an internship with Microsoft for summer 2012. After making it through the highly competitive interview process, including an all-day interview at the Microsoft headquarters in Seattle, Ian landed an internship as a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET). "The interview process was challenging," said Ian. "I'd never done anything like it. Over winter break, I spent a lot of time preparing and working with Dr. Narayanan, Leslie Kern and the recruiter from Microsoft to get a good understanding of what to expect."

Ian heard about the internship opportunity from mbrace (Monterey Bay Regional Academy of Computing Education) during a presentation in the CST 300 Proseminar class. Interested students were asked to submit resumes and cover letters to mbrace in mid-November and selected students went on to phone and in-person interviews with Microsoft.

For the internship, Microsoft will relocate Ian to Seattle for the 12 week summer experience. "I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to be a part of an organization like Microsoft," said Ian. "Getting to work with engineers from all over the world in an organization that produces cutting-edge technologies that have an impact on just about everyone is exactly what I want to do. This is why I chose CSIT and why this internship will be a great learning experience."
