The overall goal of this MRO-W research project is tri-fold:
- To engage women undergraduates in the research process that applies computing in other disciplines;
- To increase the enrollment of women undergraduates in computing related classes with in our department;
- To increase the numbers of women who continue on to graduate school in computer science.
The idea of integrating games and simulations into curriculum is becoming an important research topic in education. However, there is a lack of understanding whether game-integrated technology tools indeed can enhance student learning outcomes, course satisfaction, and time on task as compared to technology tools without games and simulations. There is a growing need to know empirically, how well the learning with simulations and games really works. As a result, a key goal of this study will be to investigate how computer games may affect student learning outcomes.
Overall Research Questions:
- What features of learning games may enhance student learning outcomes?
- What features of learning games may increase student engagement?
- What features of learning games may improve student satisfaction of the learning process?
- Are these features unique to computer games only?
