Am I ready for the MIST program?Most of the instruction in the Master of Science in Instructional Science and Technology (MIST) program is delivered through e-learning modules. For most students, effective interaction with the course materials requires a commitment of 12-20 hours of study per week. There are very few traditional tests or exams throughout the MIST program. Student progress is primarily assessed through writing assignments and multimedia projects, which can be time-consuming. If you have difficulty with graduate-level writing in English, or your computer skills are weak, you must be able to allow for additional time to spend on writing or technology tutoring.What are the requirements for admission into the MIST program?General requirements for admission to graduate (and other post-baccalaureate) studies at any CSU campus are established by Title 5.1.3 of the California Code of Regulations and by university regulations.2010-2011 MIST application steps at a glance: (see below for full detail)1. Complete and submit an application form at CSUMENTOR.org and $55.00 application fee payable to CSUMB.
2. Submit all required supporting documents by the applicable document deadline
A. Submit two (2) official copies of each of the following:
1) Transcripts of all college coursework taken
2) Test scores (TOEFL, GRE, etc.), (if applicable) 3) Foreign Credential Evaluation (if applicable) B. Submit an original "Statement of Purpose" (one copy is sufficient)
C. Submit two (2) or three (3) original letters of reference (one copy of each is sufficient)
D. Complete and return the Technology Screening Assessment that we will email to you upon receipt of your application 2010-2011 MIST application deadlines at a glance: (see below for full detail)October 1, 2009 - Application period opens for Summer 2009December 15, 2009 - Priority application and document deadline January 15, 2010 - Final application deadline (applicants with any foreign coursework, applications may still be accepted after this date but there is no guarantee of review) January 22, 2010 - Priority application review and selection February 15, 2010 - Final application deadline (applicants with only domestic coursework, applications may still be accepted after this date but there is no guarantee of review) March 1, 2010 - Final document deadline March 15, 2010 - Final application review and selection BACK TO TOP 2010-2011 MIST application steps (detail):1. B. On line 10a, insert "INTD" as the objective, "49993" as the program code, and indicate "IDMA/IST" as the emphasis. On line 10b, enter "5" signifying that the degree is a Master of Arts degree. 2. Submit all required supporting documents. * Have two (2) official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended mailed directly to the MIST Program at the address listed above. (We recommend that you request that an additional copy be mailed directly to you at home and that you leave that envelope unopened until you have confirmation that we have received our copies.)
* A GPA of 3.0 is expected for the most recent 60 units of college-level work attempted. GPA between 2.5 and 3.0 may be considered with substantial alternative demonstration of ability to succeed in the program. 2) Test scores (TOEFL, GRE, etc.), (if applicable) * We recommend that you take the GRE test to improve your competitive standing but it is not required. CSUMB''s school code for ETS is 1945.
* For those students required to demonstrate english proficiency: the MIST program requires a TOEFL score of 575 for admission. Selected applicants with TOEFL scores between 525 and 574 and applicants demonstrating english proficiency with test scores other than TOEFL must pass a writing workshop offered by ITCD before the first day of classes as a condition of admission. Applicants with TOEFL scores below 525 will not be considered. * CSUMB minimum requirements for english proficiency for applicants with degrees from foreign universities are listed on the Admissions & Recruitment website at: http://ar.csumb.edu/site/x5362.xml#requirements 3) Foreign Credential Evaluation (if applicable) * All transcripts from schools outside the United States must be sent, at the applicant''s expense, to a foreign credential evaluation service. A detailed "course-by-course" report is required for all programs.
Three credential evaluation services accepted by CSU Monterey Bay are: 1. World Education Services WES http://www.wes.org/ 2. American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Offices AACRAO http://www.aacrao.org/credential/ 3. International Education Research Foundation IERF http://www.ierf.org/ * CSUMB minimum requirements for foreign credential evaluation for applicants with degrees from foreign universities are listed on the Admissions & Recruitment website at: http://ar.csumb.edu/site/x5362.xml#requirements B. Submit an original "Statement of Purpose" (one copy is sufficient). * Include a 1000-2000 word Statement of Purpose (statement of educational and professional goals) that demonstrates your writing ability. C. Submit two (2) or three (3) letters of reference (one copy of each is sufficient). * Include two or three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your professional and academic work. D. Technology Screening Assessment * Upon receipt of your application, we will email you a technology screening assessment that you must complete and submit prior to your document deadline.
