My first exposure to computers was in kindergarten when my family got a Commodore 64 and my dad taught my brother and I to write a simple loop that scrolled our names across the screen. Despite always having a computer around, I never thought about CS as a career until my sophomore year of college when I took a programming class and found that I enjoyed it so much more than the classes in my major - I switched to computer engineering that semester!
I have a BSE in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan, an MSI from the School of Information at the University of Michigan, and a PhD in Computer Science from Northwestern. My research area is Artificial Intelligence and my research interests include cognitive modeling, sketch-based interfaces, knowledge capture, learning, and community technology.
I am also very interested in computer science education and increasing the number of women in technology fields. When I am not in front of a computer, I enjoy running, biking, ultimate Frisbee, and reading.
