Job Opportunity - QA Specialist for Major Website

THE JOB

Work part-time while going to school - and not only earn income, but also build your resume with experience in a major high-tech company.  SHOP.COM in Monterey, CA, recognized by Internet Retailer as one of the top “100 Hot Retail Sites”, is seeking a part-time QA Specialist and will consider a current student or recent college graduate with computer and web fluency and keen attention to detail.

The Website QA Specialist tests content and functionality of the SHOP.COM website to identify, document and report bugs to the team of software developers.  This individual will test new product releases and participate in innovative upgrades for a robust website with around half a million sessions a day.

The position is 30-40 hours per week, and the work schedule is flexible enough to work around most class schedules. The position is temporary, estimated to continue through December, and may continue beyond that depending on business demand.

QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate MUST:

  1. Currently be in (or recently graduated from) a degree in Computer Science, or in another major and have taken technical courses including topics like Computers, Networks, or Web Applications.

  1. Be very, very detail-oriented (do you catch typos and bugs everywhere? Do you often notice web functions that are not designed for best usability?).

  1. Be a good communicator, both verbal and written, and get along with others.

  1. Be able to get work done independently; a self-starter, independent and proactive.

Even better if you also:

  1. Understand quality assurance methodology and system testing processes and how it fits into the software development product life cycle.

  1. Have experience testing web-applications and identifying defects.

  1. Have experience with querying & extracting data from relational databases (MS SQL preferred).
