Since September 1996, the Consortium Research Fellows Program (CRFP) has placed 143 students from California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) as Consortium ResearchFellowsand Consortium Research Assistants at the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC). Twenty-five CSUMB students are working at DMDC via the CRFP as of November 2007. Currently, 43 former Consortium students fill full-time positions at DMDC. Consortium students work with government Mentors. Among the current 35 Mentors are five former Consortium students who graduated from CSUMB and are now nurturing the next generation of Fellows and Assistants. This progression from student to employee to mentor illustrates the vibrant spirit of cooperation that exists among DMDC, CSUMB, and CRFP. What kinds of CSUMB students become Research Fellows and Research Assistants? They have been undergraduate and graduate students and have come from more than 25 different programs of study. They represent a diversity of backgrounds and cultures and have a wide variety of skills, abilities, and interests. They enhance their education by working at DMDC, and their presence enriches the DMDC workforce. Contact:Jean M. Forrest, M.S.Ed.
